BBC Radio 2 fans were greeted with an unexpected voice when they tuned into Zoe Ball's Breakfast Show on Thursday, after the star was replaced with a familiar face.
Veteran broadcast Tony Blackburn stepped in for the star for the final hour of her show, just days after he bid an emotional farewell to his own local show.
Earlier this month Zoe revealed that she would be taking a break from work to care for her mother, after she was diagnosed with cancer.
While she has hosted her show since, Tony stepped in for Pirate Radio Takeover, paying homage to his days as a DJ on Radio Caroline.
The BBC said: 'Tony has just taken over the controls in the studio and is now broadcasting live on Radio 2, playing just 60s tracks like he played to listeners all those years ago on Radio Caroline.'
