A BBC Radio 1 star has admitted he's been left looking unrecognisable after a hair transplant left him with a swollen and bruised face.

Presenter Dean McCullough, 32, shared a TikTok video of his face after undergoing the procedure three days earlier, but insisted the swelling is 'normal.'

He went onto joke that due to the bruising he's now in his 'Avatar era,' with some of his followers commenting on his noticeably different appearance.

Sharing before and after snaps of his appearance, Dean wrote: 'Day 3 of my hair transplant journey and I'm trusting the process, zero pain or major discomfort and apparently the swelling is normal.

'The swelling should be gone by end of day four and ill be able to wash it on day five. sleeping is fine, the donor area is fine, I'm putting antiseptic on it and following the aftercare plan.'

Sharing their surprise, fans' comments included: 'OMG it's Dean! I didn't even recognise you;

'The fact I thought why do I know his voice until I read your name.'

A hair transplant is a procedure to move hair to an area that's thin or bald, and can cost anywhere between £1,000 and £30,000, depending on the extent of hair loss, the type of procedure you have, and the quality of the clinic and its team.

Dean was a regular star on the Big Brother spin-off Late and Live last year, as well as the Celebrity version in March.

Earlier this year it was also announced that he would be taking over the BBC Radio 1 Early Breakfast Show, after previously fronting the afternoon slot.

Speaking about the new job, Dean said: 'I'm really excited to be taking over the reins from the amazing Arielle Free.
