Claudia Winkleman has shared a sweet message with Romesh Raganathan who is due to take over her slot on Radio 2 as he begins his new show on Saturday.

The presenter, 52, who announced she was leaving her programme after 15 years on air in December, wrapped her final show at the end of March as she struggled to fight back tears.

And as the comedian prepares to replace the TV star, Claudia sent him a special good luck message as she apologised for the 'chewed pens' she has left behind.

Appearing on The One Show on Friday, host Alex Jones brought up her departure from the radio station, as she told Claudia: 'Listeners were very upset to see you leave Radio 2.'

Joking, Claudia teased: 'They aren't upset, I can hear them cheering. [Romesh] is the funniest man alive, I cannot wait to listen to him.'

As Alex and Roman Kemp asked whether Claudia had a good luck message for Romesh, who begin his first show at 10am on Saturday, the Traitors presenter began: 'So Romesh you are the funniest man alive. Full stop.

'I wish you enormous luck, you don't need luck. We the listeners and Radio 2 are lucky to have you so enjoy it and sorry about my chewing of all the pens.'

During Claudia's final show last month, the star was left fighting back tears as she bid farewell to her listeners and the team.

She told her listeners: 'We've come to the end and I'm allergic to goodbyes but I do want to say many thanks yous, I would like to thank Helen and everyone at Radio 2.'
