Comedian Mark Steel shares happy news he is cancer free after battle with ... trends now

Mark Steel has shared the happy news he is now cancer free as he revealed the doctors 'saved his life' following his battle with throat cancer.

The comedian, 63, revealed he had been diagnosed with the disease back in October after he discovered a lump in his neck while shaving.

While Mark assured fans at the time that it was a cancer 'that can be got rid of', he shared the relieving news that he is now cancer free on Friday.

In a post on X, formerly Twitter, he said: 'A nice man from UCL Hospital called this week, to say a scan of me showed the cancer I had has all gone. The treatment worked, the cancer bottled it and ran off, the wimp.'

He jokily added: 'One thing I've learned through all this is I don't recommend chemotherapy or radiotherapy as recreational drugs. I can't see them taking off in the clubs.

'UCLH is an amazing place packed with wonderful souls. They've saved my life but I reckon this mention on Twitter makes us even. Also, I discovered my son and daughter are magnificent and that I know lots of brilliant people who are beautifully kind and funny and rude.

'And… lots of you sent me messages which was SO appreciated and I'd marry you all if there wasn't a law against it. Now I'll shut up about it, after the 'my cancer journey' book and tour and musical. And from now on I'll be careful not to catch cancer again.

Last October he revealed he had noticed his neck 'looking much bigger than normal' while shaving in June, but after googling the symptoms assumed it was an infection.

However, his neck got bigger prompting him to see a doctor who booked him a scan at the hospital.

Mark recalled that during his appointment was when 'everything changed' after the radiologist said he would need a biopsy.

He wrote: '“Biopsy?” I thought, “But that’s how cancer starts. It always starts with a biopsy,' before adding, 'a biopsy makes everything seem grotesquely, cancerously real.'

A doctor then gave him the prognosis over the phone that his 'chances' were 'not good'.

Mark then explained that he was emailed and told his biopsy was lost, and would have to come in for another 'to see what stage of cancer you have'.

The comedy writer expressed that he did not blame the NHS, but said: 'Most of
