Amanda Keller has opened up about the emotional rollercoaster of motherhood.

In an interview published in Mel Wilson's new book Parenting In Progress, the radio personality, 62, spoke to the author about the difficulty she faced as her sons Liam, 22, and Jack, 20, grew older.

'I found when they're little and when they're squidgy, you express your love physically. Cuddles, holding hands. Once they're taller they don't wanna be hugged and played with anymore. I found that very difficult,' she said in an excerpt from the book published by Woman's Day magazine on Monday.

'We've just bought a holiday house on the (NSW) South Coast, and when I see people there holding hands with their little toddlers, I think "Oh I miss that".'

But it was her youngest son's departure that prompted her to seek advice from a professional therapist who helped her come to terms with the difficult transition.
