The patient, who has not been named, was being treated for eye inflammation according to reports — their only symptom. The individual tested positive for bird flu last week, with the case confirmed by the CDC over the weekend. Experts are alarmed over the case because it raises the risk of the bird flu starting to transmit between humans. But the federal Government insists the risk to the general population is still low. They say people with prolonged unprotected exposures to infected birds or other animals — including livestock — are at higher risk.
