The Denver Broncos have given soon-to-be free agent Russell Wilson the green light to talk to teams around the NFL before free agency starts next week.

On Wednesday, sources told ESPN that the Broncos have allowed Wilson, 35, to take meetings in other cities days after being informed that he was getting cut after two seasons in Denver.

The Broncos signed the veteran quarterback to a five-year, $242.6 million deal after acquiring him in a blockbuster trade from Seattle. However, after two unsuccessful seasons, the team opted to move on from Wilson while taking an $85m hit in dead money with the release.

Following the news, Wilson released a statement to thank the organization and Denver fanbase while expressing his excitement for what's ahead.

'Over these last two years, you have welcomed my family and me with open arms and have embraced us as members of the Denver community,' Wilson's statement read. 'This city will always hold a special place in my heart.
