The decision not to award Arsenal a penalty at the end of their 2-2 draw with Bayern Munich has divided opinion among fans on social media, despite new footage shedding fresh light on the incident.

In the final seconds of the entertaining Champions League quarter-final first-leg at the Emirates, Bukayo Saka rounded Manuel Neuer and went over in the box after making contact with the German stopper.

But referee Glenn Nyberg was unconvinced, waving play on, while VAR also opted against intervening.

Saka was seen confronting the Swedish official after the full-time whistle was blown but the incident has split the opinion of fans of social media following the circulation of a slowed-down clip of the coming together.

'I can’t believe anyone can watch this and think no pen.' Wrote one fan on X, formerly Twitter. 'It is completely irrelevant what Saka does or doesn’t do, Neuer comes rushing out, over commits, STICKS HIS LEG OUT and misses the ball, contact made at high speed = PEN. Incredible decision.'

Goalkeeper Manuel Neuer looked to have brought Saka down, but the referee waved it away

Some were adamant that Manuel Neuer was at fault and should have been penalised for his contact with Bukayo Saka

Another in agreement said: 'That’s a very clear penalty, it only becomes a debate because it wasn’t given by the referee. How Arsenal fans have fallen into the trap of maybe it’s not a pen, all for debate purposes is beyond me. If it’s given, there’s 0 debate about it.'

A third replied: 'To my eye, .25x speed makes it look even more of a foul. Manuel Neuer is pretty clearly moving into Bukayo Saka.
