Roma claimed a 2-1 victory in one of the most extraordinary Serie A clashes staged on Thursday night, beating relegation-threatened Udinese inside 24 minutes to finally call time in their delayed contest.

The first meeting between the two clubs took place during their scheduled fixture on April 14, but play was suspended in the 72nd minute after Roma defender Evan Ndicka collapsed on the pitch

The tie was abandoned 10 minutes after the player was carried off 'conscious' on a stretcher before he was rushed to hospital, where Ndicka was later diagnosed with a collapsed lung

After a series of tests, Ndicka has been cleared to return to playing but will continue to be monitored closely after head coach Daniele de Rossi said that his player 'luckily' did not suffer cardiac issues.

Rather than replaying the match in full as might have been discussed in other leagues, Serie A allowed the two teams to continue their battle 11 days after the match kicked off, with the remaining 18 minutes - plus any stoppage time - to be seen out in Udine.
