sport news Premier League manager ratings: Erik Ten Hag and Mauricio Pochettino are under ... trends now

With just a handful of games left of the campaign for Premier League clubs, some thoughts would have already turned to next season.

First, there is a title race to decide, with Arsenal still leading the way a point clear of Manchester City at the top of the table, but with the reigning champions having played a game more.

While at the bottom in looks like a straight shootout between Luton, Burnley and Nottingham Forest to see who gets relegated with Sheffield United

The results of each will lead to questions on the performances of the managers, and who will still be in charge of their clubs when the Premier League returns in August. With the likes of David Moyes, Erik ten Hag and Mauricio Pochettino all under pressure in their current posts.

Mail Sport ranks the twenty Premier League bosses and rates their chances of staying in a job next season.

ARSENAL - Mikel Arteta

For the second successive season Arsenal are fighting for the Premier League title, and could still end the campaign with their first championship since 2004.

Arteta's clever recruitment last summer has seen his Gunners side add steel to their style this season, and they boast both the best defensive record in the Premier League as well as scoring the most goals.

The victory over north London rivals Tottenham on Sunday made it 100 wins in just 169 games for the Spaniard - the fifth quickest in the history of the league. Now he just needs a title medal to confirm his place among the elite managers in the game.

ASTON VILLA - Unai Emery

Aston Villa fans were already enamoured with Unai Emery after his turnaround last season after taking over from Steven Gerrard, but he's exceeded all expectations in his first full campaign at the club.

Villa are on course to finish fourth in the Premier League and embark on their first-ever Champions League campaign, while they have reached a European semi-final for the first time in forty years - where they will fancy their chances of making the final by overcoming Olympiacos.

While things never quite worked out for Emery at Arsenal, he couldn't have done a better job with Villa, and having signed a new contract until 2027, it should warn off any suitors and secure a bright future for the midlands club.

BRENTFORD - Thomas Frank

It would have to have a been for a disaster of a season for Thomas Frank to lose any stock with the Brentford faithful, and he remains a huge part of the fabric at the London club.

True, this has probably been the Dane's most difficult season since being promoted to the big time. Having had to deal with a wrath of injuries, as well as being without talisman Ivan Toney for the first half of the campaign.

However, the Bees have never been in any real danger of being dragged into the relegation at the bottom, and you'd expect Frank and Brentford to kick-on once again next year.

BRIGHTON - Roberto De Zerbi

With so many high-profile jobs available ahead of next season, it's a small surprise that De Zerbi is still manager of the Seagulls - but that could be down to the club's struggle for form at the wrong time.

The Italian has been linked with the posts at Liverpool, Bayern Munich and Barcelona over the course of the campaign, but will most likely still be Brighton manager come the first day of 2024-25.

This will allow De Zerbi to continue the excellent work his done at the South Coast club, while also ironing out the poor streaks of form Brighton have suffered at times, which has prevented them from pushing on from last year and challenging for the European spots once again.

BOURNEMOUTH - Andoni Iraola

A reward for patience for the Cherries, who, following Sunday's 3-0 win over Brighton have now recorded the highest-ever Premier League points total, and it's come under the impressive Iraola.

It's a far cry from nine games into the season, when Bournemouth were winless and the decision to replace Gary O'Neil with the Spanish boss was looking like a huge mistake by the club.

However, Iraola was given time to implement his style upon the current playing staff and it's resulted in him being in the conversation for one of the surprise successes of the season. A real feather in Bournemouth's cap.

BURNLEY - Vincent Kompany

When the Clarets were promoted having amassed over 100 points in their Championship winning campaign, there were many who believed they could achieve more than just Premier League survival - but it's not quite worked out that way.

While Vincent Kompany's expansive style of football stormed the tier below, it has been exposed in the top flight and seen a season of struggle for Burnley.

There has been some tweaks to his style in the second half of the campaign, that has given the club a fighting chance of staying up, but it looks as though it's come too late and a big lesson has been learned by manager and owners ahead of what it's expected to be a return to the Championship.

CHELSEA - Mauricio Pochettino

Joe Cole called Mauricio Pochettino's job 'the hardest in world football' this past weekend, and while that may have been hyperbole from the former Blues star, it's hard to not have some sympathy for the Argentine.

Lumbered with a bloated and unbalanced squad, full of expensive acquisitions but short on elite experience, it's no real surprise that Chelsea have been so inconsistent.

Pochettino hasn't been blameless in the club's struggles, and fans have been frustrated with some his tactics and team selections. However, he'll point to reaching a cup final as progress and believe he deserves another season at trying to fine tune the squad.

Removing him and starting again next season, would only derail the London club yet further.

CRYSTAL PALACE - Oliver Glasner

The club and Roy Hodgson probably chose the right time to say thanks and goodbye when the the former England boss was replaced earlier in the season amid a bout of ill health.

Palace had stagnated and needed fresh impetus, which they've got in abundance with the arrival of Oliver Glasner in February.

It's still early days in the Austrian's reign, but there are some early green shoots of what's to come under him. If he can continue his early promise and keep the trio of Michael Olise, Ebere Eze and Jean-Philippe Mateta at Selhurst Park, then there could be a real buzz about the club going forward.

EVERTON - Sean Dyche

Some managers have spent a career not having to deal with the amount of drama that Sean Dyche has had to endure during his time in charge at Goodison Park.

The Toffees' two separate points deductions have threatened to derail their season and drag the side into the Premier League bottom three, but as expected Dyche has come out fighting, and really got Everton going.

Despite a limited budget and the off-field sagas, Everton have secured Premier League safety with games to spare, ever-enhancing the former Burnley manager's reputation.

Maybe he should ditch the suit for good?
