Jason Demetriou's classy and heartfelt text message to his players has been revealed after the embattled coach was sacked as Souths coach on Tuesday night.

The club's board convened on Tuesday evening, ultimately determining there was little option but to sever ties with the third-year coach after his last-placed Rabbitohs won only one of seven games to begin the year.

Bunnies players will begin life after Demetriou on Wednesday, with interim coach Ben Hornby to finalise preparations for Thursday's clash with Penrith.

Once Demetriou was given the bad news, he sent a heartfelt message to the playing group.

'Hey lads, just a quick note from me to let you know sadly I have been sacked,' Demetriou wrote.
