Max Verstappen has handed Red Bull a welcome boost by insisting that he could not be lured away to Mercedes even for £150million a year.

The reigning world champion put himself beyond price as rumours swirl that he is disgruntled by recent shenanigans at the team, which only this week saw design guru Adrian Newey announce he will not see out his contract.

This was on the top of the scandal that engulfed team principal Christian Horner over allegedly coercive behaviour towards a female colleague. He was cleared in an internal investigation, a verdict now subject to an ongoing appeal.

Verstappen, 26, has not enjoyed the upheaval and has called for calm, but is not ready to jump ship and certainly not while he is driving the car of its time. He is under contract until 2028, though that has not stopped Mercedes targeting him as their dream replacement for Ferrari-bound Lewis Hamilton.
