Tom Brady has been criticized by Birmingham City fans after issuing a rallying cry in the wake of their relegation from the Championship.

The NFL legend and seven-time Super Bowl winner was in Miami on Saturday when the Blues dropped down to the third tier of English soccer.

But he took to X to thank fans for their support. He wrote: 'We have a long way to go but it’s because of all of you that we’ll achieve great things in the future.'

Birmingham beat Norwich City 1-0 on the final day of the season but results elsewhere consigned them to relegation after a dismal season.

Brady is the most high-profile member of the club's American ownership group, which controversially sacked manager John Eustace and replaced him with Wayne Rooney in October.
