The AFL is reportedly working on plans to create a premiership ring that could cost the league approximately $2.2million per season.
According to Nine's Tom Morris, the plan would see every player who featured at least once in the premiership team awarded with the ring, a tradition borrowed from US sports.
In US competitions such as NBA and NFL, championship winners are given shiny rings to celebrate their victory, and plans are afoot in the NRL to design a similar blingy item.
A prototype AFL championship ring has been unveiled, which shows a glittering Magpie - the icon for premiers Collingwood - surrounded by diamonds.
Each ring is reportedly worth over $50,000, meaning that it would cost the league $2.2million a year based on an average of roughly 44 players used per season.
