Everton's leading fan group has called on owner Farhad Moshiri to invite new suitors to come forward and bid for the club after a protracted takeover attempt by American firm 777 Partners looks likely to fall flat.

The Iranian businessman is believed to have held tense talks with representatives of the Miami-based firm this week amid a string of lawsuits against 777. Moshiri’s patience with the sale of his 94.1 per cent stake is said to be wearing thin after an agreement in mid-September.

And the Everton Fan Advisory Board said: ‘This ongoing confusion and lack of transparency cannot continue. Each party must recognise the role it is playing in sullying the reputation of one of the most storied clubs in English football history.
