Over one million people have ran in the London Marathon since it began over 40 years ago in 1981.
Some 26.2 miles, the annual long-distance run loops through the city and often includes some of London's greatest landmarks.
Hundreds of thousands of keen runners apply and for the first time in history more than half a million people entered the ballot for 2024's race, according to TCS London Marathon.
More than 50,000 people, a record number, are expected to take part in this year's marathon and there will be 30 seconds of applause before Sunday's race in memory of last year's elite men's race winner Kelvin Kiptum who died in a car accident in February at the age of 24.
