The children of a woman killed when a speeding SUV ploughed through her bedroom said they hope the driver - who walked free from Penrith District Court on Tuesday - will get the mental health help she needs.

But while Daisy and Josh Oxley accept Batoul Sleibi El Dirani, 30, was mentally ill at the time, they are disappointed there was no accountability for their mother's death. 

Robyn Oxley, 62, was thrown from her bed, through a window and over the fence into a neighbour's yard when El Dirani's black Jeep Grand Cherokee smashed through the front of the home in St Marys in western Sydney in October, 2022.

She was pronounced dead at the scene.

Speaking outside the court, Ms Oxley's children, who had travelled from interstate to attend, told Daily Mail Australia it was daunting to finally come face-to-face with the woman who claimed their mother's life.

The siblings said their heartache has been compounded by the fact El Dirani is yet to apologise or show any remorse.

Mr Oxley said they hope the tragedy will shed light on cracks within the mental health system.

'The evidence shows she was sick prior, so why wasn't she taken to hospital?' he said.

'More action should have been taken, and taken quickly. That may have prevented this. That's where I want to see change.'

El Dirani was spotted by police wearing a navy blue dressing gown and walking barefoot down a western Sydney street on the morning of October 8, 2022.

Moments before, she had been behind the wheel when her car crashed through Ms Oxley's home.
