Erica Hay, 30, was discovered in a rear bedroom of a home in Currie Street, Warnbro, in Perth's southern suburbs at about 1am on Friday morning. A 35-year-old man and a three-year-old girl escaped from the house and were taken to Rockingham Hospital to be treated for smoke inhalation. WA Police Acting Detective Superintendent Dave Gorton said Ms Hay's death was being treated 'as a murder', The West Australian reported. 'The death is being treated as suspicious at this point in time,' he said. No charges are yet to be laid. 'There is no risk to the public, but the scene at the home was 'very confronting' for the paramedics and police who attended the fire,' Gorton said. 'I think for the first responders and the other emergency services, it was a very confronting scene for them.' Authorities are yet to determine Ms Hay's cause of death. 'We've been in contact with the forensic pathologists, and we're still awaiting the information in relation to the cause of death,' Gorton said. The toddler remains in a stable condition while the man has been discharged from hospital. Police forensic work was focused on the backyard of the home on Friday, and one officer was seen putting a red Bic lighter into an evidence bag. A covered police marquee was also erected in the backyard. The West reported that police arson squad officers left the house at around 3pm while forensics remained at the scene.
