The pair, both aged in their 20s, were captured on CCTV footage crossing the Hume Highway at Yagoona, in Sydney's west, at about 4am on Friday. They narrowly avoided being hit by a white van just seconds before they were struck by the Toyota HiLux on a pedestrian crossing. The traffic lights had been green for oncoming traffic at the time. Both were in a critical condition. The 59-year-old driver of the Toyota HiLux was transported to Bankstown Hospital for mandatory drug and alcohol testing. The ute, which had been travelling 60km/hour, sustained serious damage, including a smashed windscreen, a crumpled bonnet and dented bullbar.
