Ipswich Town fans have left behind an extraordinary sea of litter as supporters enjoyed boozy celebrations to mark their team's Premier League promotion.

Shocking footage shared on social media shows empty beer cans and bottles dumped throughout Ipswich town centre.

However, instead of kicking up a fuss, council bosses encouraged supporters to keep celebrating, telling fans: 'Keep the memories, we'll handle the mess.'

Ipswich Borough Council added in their post on social media: 'What an amazing day. Clean-up starts tomorrow.'

The Tractor Boys secured their return to the Premier League this weekend with a  2-0 win over Huddersfield.
