A U.S. Army Sergeant and his brother have been charged with a failed murder-for-fire plot to kill four people, including two children, court documents revealed.
Sergeant Jeremiah Peikert, 30, was arrested in Texas on Thursday and extradited to Connecticut where he faces conspiracy charges for working with his brother Joshua Peikert, 32, to arrange a murder scheme.
Police said while incarcerated at the Corrigan Correctional Center in Uncasville, Joshua asked his cellmate if he knew a hitman who could kill a 29-year-old woman, a 23-year-old man, a 10-year-old girl and a one-year-old girl in 2022.
The cellmate said he would find someone to commit the murders for $10,000 per person and requested a $500 'finders fee,' according to court documents.
Jeremiah allegedly deposited two payments of $100 and $150 into the cellmate's account and spoke on the phone with him several times about the hit.
