Is global TV sensation Baby Reindeer about to return to its stage roots?
Olivier award-winning West End producer Francesca Moody — who put on A Streetcar Named Desire with Paul Mescal last year and Fleabag with Phoebe Waller-Bridge in 2019 — has the stage rights to Richard Gadd's one-man show, on which the Netflix smash hit is based.
She produced it at Edinburgh's Fringe Festival back in 2019, took it to London's bijou Bush Theatre — and was planning to move it to the Ambassadors Theatre, before Covid intervened. Now there is a lot of heat and excitement about the prospect of another tilt at the West End.
Gadd's solo show, which runs at around 65 intense minutes, would surely draw big crowds thanks to its streaming success.
Netflix reported this week that Baby Reindeer remains its global No 1 show, with 18.6 million viewers over the past four weeks. Gadd has spent this week in Los Angeles on a hastily convened promotional tour alongside co-stars Jessica Gunning and Nava Mau.
