Units descended on the village of Downley yesterday at around 6pm following reports of a 54-year-old man armed wielding a crossbow.

When armed police arrived, the man in question shot a police officer with the weapon.

He was then shot and arrested on suspicion of attempted murder and has been taken to hospital under police supervision with potentially life-changing injuries.
