QUEBEC — Huron-Wendat singer Gilles Sioui, 60, was found dead in his apartment Friday.
His cousin, Grand Chief of Wendake Konrad Sioui, posted about Gilles’ death on Facebook, calling him “an accomplished artist and proud ambassador of his Nation.”
He was scheduled to perform Saturday evening at a Pow Wow.
Gilles Sioui’s music career began in 1974. He was a blues enthusiast and had collaborated with many local Quebec artists, such as Florent Vollant and Vincent Vallières. In 2008, he became the spokesperson for Wendake, a reserve near Quebec City, to highlight Quebec City’s 400th anniversary.
