Melbourne was struck by gale force winds on Saturday, with gusts reaching above 100 kilometres an hour at the airport. 

While the city was left damaged by the wild weather, those stuck on planes landing at Melbourne Airport were given a frightening first-hand experience of just how strong the wind really was.

Frightening footage sees a Qantas A380 trying to land at Tullamarine, the country's second busiest airport, but being pushed from side to side by the gale.
