Gareth Gates has revealed he proposed to Faye Brooks after performing a 17 minute long song for her about their relationship.

The couple - who split up briefly - last year, got engaged earlier this month and excitedly revealed their big news in a chat with OK! magazine.

Gareth, 34, popped the question to his soap star girlfriend, 31, whilst they were staying at a friend’s high-rise apartment in New York, offering up a 4-carat diamond ring after performing a 17-minute song that he played on the grand piano.

Faye recalled: ‘We were both crying the whole way through.

'Once it was finished, Gareth got down on one knee and said: “Will you spend the rest of your life with me?” And of course I said yes straight away.'

She added: ‘It’s every girl’s dream to find the perfect man for her and then have the perfect engagement, so I feel very lucky.

'To have such a beautiful ring and to share the most brilliant life with my best friend is everything I’ve ever wanted. He could have but any ring on my finger and I would have said yes’
