Nicholas Lyndhurst skips Only Fools and Horses musical premiere

Former stars of Only Fools and Horses swapped the streets of south London for the red carpet last night as they attended the opening night of a West End musical adaptation of the show.

There was one notable absentee, however. Just around the corner, Nicholas Lyndhurst, who played Rodney in the series, was launching a musical of his own.

The British actor will star alongside Frasier actor Kelsey Grammer and Danielle deNiese in Man of La Mancha, inspired by Cervantes’s Don Quixote, at the Coliseum Theatre in April.

Meanwhile, actors John Challis and Patrick Murray were photographed at the first night of Only Fools and Horses: The Musical at London’s Theatre Royal Haymarket.

John, who played Boycie, posed next to the yellow three-wheeled Reliant Regal van owned by Del Boy, which had been parked on the red carpet.

Bearing a striking resemblance to his on-screen character, John looked dapper in a navy waistcoat and chinos, which he teamed with a grey, blue jacket, white skirt and striped tie.

Taking a style note from his alter-ego, John slipped a red silk pocket square into his jacket for the opening night of the play.

Joining John on the red carpet was his co-star Patrick Murray, who starred in the show as Mickey Pearce, a young unnerving man always wearing a hat and boasting about some imagined business successes of his.

Also come dressed for the occasion, Patrick donned a blue shirt and leather jacket which may well have been the same one his character Mickey wore during the 2001 Christmas Special.

Aside from Nicholas' notable absence another of the show's star was also missing from the evening's festivities, lead actor Sir David Jason.
