It is the true crime Netflix documentary which has rocked unsuspecting viewers to the core.

And now Skye Borgman, the director of Abducted in Plain Sight, has admitted that a shock scene involving Jan Broberg's mother was left on the cutting room floor.

Speaking candidly to Vanity Fair, Borgman revealed that Mary Ann Broberg recalled how she allegedly confronted former family friend Robert Berchtold with a gun in a parking lot after he kidnapped her daughter twice in the 1970s.

First aired in May 2017 in the US and dropped in the UK only last month, Abducted in Plain Sight has proven itself as one of the most scandalous documentaries in recent times and has quickly gained cult status.

And Skye has explained that there were yet more outrageous elements to the true story, case in point the gun that Mary Ann and her brother brought to the parking lot showdown with Berchtold.

There was also a deleted scene in which Skye met with a forensic psychologist to get a 'professional read' on Berchtold's obsession with Jan.

The film, directed and produced by Skye, details the story of Idaho teenager Jan and her abductions which happened when she was just 12 and 14.

Berchtold manipulated both of Jan's parents into giving access to their young daughter, with the parents later shockingly waiting days to report her missing as they didn't want to upset Berchtold's wife.

During the first abduction Berchtold fled to Mexico with Jan where he tried to brainwash her into thinking she could save the alien race by having a baby with him, before she was returned home weeks later.
