Hollywood legend Glenn Close lost out to Olivia Colman’s Queen Anne in Film4 jewel The Favourite for the best actress Oscar — her seventh nomination without winning.

But the actress won’t let the disappointment hold her back. I can reveal that production will begin in October on her next big project: the long-awaited film adaptation of the Andrew Lloyd Webber musical Sunset Boulevard.

Lloyd Webber’s show was itself based on Billy Wilder’s seminal 1950 picture, which told the story of Norma Desmond, a delusional, faded silent era movie star, and her predatory behaviour towards an impoverished scriptwriter.

Wilder’s film, set in Desmond’s decrepit shadow-filled Gothic mansion, starred Gloria Swanson and William Holden, and is preserved as part of cinema history by the U.S. National Film Registry.
