Jim Shelley on tonight's Celebrity Apprentice

Celebrity Apprentice for Comic Relief raised £380,000 but ironically – incredibly – ended up proving anything but charitable.

The results show started in similarly jokey tone to yesterday’s episode (about the famous names’ japes organising two fund-raising ‘cabaret’ auctions). So much so, even Claude Littner was being cheeky, complimentary, and (say it ain’t so) nice.

But the mood in the boardroom soon soured when, in classic fashion, Lord Sugar began to cross-examine the losing team about which of the Boys ‘was to blame for the failure of this task.’

In fact things turned surprisingly nasty considering the five celebs had given up their time and energy for Comic Relief and had raised £126,790. Plus who Lord Sugar fired didn’t matter one iota, as the two-part ‘series’ was over.

True, they had suffered a crushing defeat (by nearly £130,000) - inevitably when one of the Girls team was married to Robbie Williams, who duly headlined their event.

The boys on the other hand had three naked men holding balloons (or rather, two holding balloons and the third dropping one).

Their other performers - Simon Webbe, Kodaline and Louisa Johnson – couldn’t make up for that, let alone compete with the appeal of Robbie singing a song from The Jungle Book and doing his impression of Norman Wisdom.

When the team’s Project Manager, Rylan, selected comedian Omid Djalili and Sam Allardyce to face the one-man firing squad that is Lord Sugar, the three stars turned on each with more passion than they had often displayed the previous night during the actual task – at least in Allardyce’s case.

Seeing the former England manager and Rylan sniping at each other was one of the episode’s more surprising, surreal, sights.

‘I’ve got Billy Bullsh*tter to my right who promises me the world!’ protested Rylan (referring to Omid) when Lord Sugar accused him of mishandling the task. ‘And to my left I’ve got Fantasy Football.’
