Bryan Adams turned into a global star with his 1984 album Reckless, which included tracks 'Run to You' and 'Summer of '69'.

And on Tuesday, the Canadian singer encountered an awkward exchange on New Zealand TV when quizzed about the origins of his hit 'Summer of 69'.

Appearing on

, the musician, 59, looked visibly uncomfortable as host Jeremy Wells asked: 'Great lyrics, great song, but I was just having a look and you were nine?'

Placing his water glass down on the table, Adam confessed: 'It's not about the year... It's a metaphor. I never said 1969.'
