And Starz, the television network that produces the show, officially confirmed the show would be back for another outing, The Wrap reported on Friday. In a statement, Carmi Zlotnik, Starz' president of programming, said: 'Audiences continue to worship at the altar of American Gods and we are excited to be able to announce to all the true believers that there is more of this fantastical series to come. It's official: American Gods will return for a third season, it was confirmed on Friday... but Starz revealed the series will have ANOTHER new showrunner 'With Chic at the helm, the invaluable insight and contributions of Neil Gaiman and the undeniable talent of this dedicated cast and crew, we know that the show will continue to deliver on the vision and promise laid out in the novel.' Starz also revealed Charles “Chic” Eglee, who was executive producer for Dexter and The Shield, would become the series' new showrunner. Bryan Fuller previously took the role for series one, while Jesse Alexander briefly had it for series two before being replaced by producing director Chris Byrne and line producer Lisa Kussner. Neil Gaiman, who wrote the novel the series is based on and acts as a writer and executive producer of the show, previously spoke to Entertainment Weekly about where there was a delay to the second series' release. Pleased: In a statement, Starz' president of programming, said: 'We are excited to be able to announce to all the true believers that there is more of this fantastical series to come' The author explained: 'The big problem was, Starz delayed [the renewal] until they found out how people liked American Gods before they committed to a second series and it takes a certain amount of time to start a writers room — you have to get it together and so forth. 'What I’m hoping is it’s less about how long it’s going to take season 3 than getting a season 4 [renewal] once season 3 is underway so we can keep the writer’s room on and get the scripts written.' This comes after Ian admitted the cast would be back to film again in the summer during an appearance on Lorraine earlier this month. The actor, 76, revealed: 'We'll start again with series three of American Gods in July.' The series, which is based on Neil Gaiman's novel of the same name, sees Ian play Mr. Wednesday, aka Odin, who teams up with newcomer Shadow (Ricky Whittle) to try and combat the growing power of the New Gods: Mr. World, Technical Boy, and New Media. Reassuring fans that they will be pleased with whats to come in the second series, Ian said to Lorraine: 'I think, for those of you that love the book, it goes back to the book more this year.' Season two of American Gods currently airs in the US on Starz every Sunday, and is then released on Prime Video on Mondays.
