Married at First Sight's Elizabeth Sobinoff was previously fat-shamed by her former 'husband' Sam Ball, for eating chocolate for breakfast on the show.

And the 27-year-old has revealed how her battle with two chronic illnesses is the real reason for her unusual eating habits.

Speaking to 9Honey on Monday, the Sydney store manager said she was diagnosed with Porphyria and autoimmune disease (a mild form of Lupus) over a year ago - and one way to treat her illness is with a high-carb diet.

'Chocolate, I always have to have it in my handbag, Gatorade as well. With the blood condition, you lose electrolytes and your body dehydrates,' she said.

Symptoms for both illnesses include photo sensitivity, speech problems
