Kate Langbroek, her husband Peter Lewis and their four children are currently living in Italy for a year.

And trying to take advantage of their new European base, Peter surprised Kate with tickets to her favourite comedian, Bill Burr, who was performing in nearby Amsterdam. 

However, as Kate told listeners on Hughesy & Kate on Wednesday, Peter got more than he bargained for when he bought two overpriced tickets for 440 euros (AU$706) each.

Recalling the story to her co-host Dave Hughes, Kate explained that her husband had purchased the tickets through online ticket reselling site, Viagogo.

'My husband ended up buying two tickets because he thought they were the only two tickets left,' she said.

'I think he bought the 440 euro option (more than $600 a ticket). That was the cheapest option,' she continued.
