Many grow up dreaming of the chance to act in a Hollywood blockbuster before getting dolled up to the nines to collect a coveted Oscar in front of the world's adoring gaze.

And while for most it remains a fantasy, acting coach to the stars, Bernard Hiller, has revealed that the path to success may not be as unachievable as one would assume, as he exclusively told MailOnline the secrets behind some of Hollywood's most celebrated stars.

The 56-year-old, who is a firm believer in working with his students to 'figure out who they are' in the face of adversity, has revealed that Lady Gaga, 33, told him she was 'deeply criticised' every day - and also admitted Leonardo DiCaprio, 44, finally sought the help of an acting coach after losing out on his third Oscar nomination.

Bernard, who is currently in London to host his masterclass for aspiring actors, detailed his 40 years of experience in the industry, telling MailOnline that the 'thing that kills careers is people's personal problems.'

Admitting that now is the best time for an artist to be in the business, he detailed his job as teaching people 'how to figure out who they are because successful and happy people will change the world.'

And someone who has changed the world in terms of the acting business is Titanic star Leonardo - who has such a close relationship with Bernard, that he ensures to send any potential rising stars his way in a bid to make them Hollywood's brightest new 'It' thing.

Talking about the importance of having assistance on set, Bernard revealed that Leo finally caved and got himself an acting coach after losing the Best Actor Oscar award in 2005 (The Aviator), 2007 (Blood Diamond), and 2014 (The Wolf Of Wall Street).

Preaching that 'even the best ask for help', Bernard highlighted Leo as the perfect example as he finally walked on stage at the Oscars in 2016 to collect his gong for Best Actor for his work in The Revenant.

'Sometimes I'm on set with the actors because they just want to get that little bit better. They can't see their own performance, so that's where I come in,' Bernard detailed his experience of working with actors on location.

Meanwhile, someone has been vocal about her critics in the past, and has used that hardship to catapult her career over the past few years is Lady Gaga - who walked away with an Oscar for Best Original Song for A Star Is Born earlier this year.

While speaking about the success of people who go 'against the grain', he said of Gaga: 'I remember talking to Gaga and she said that everyday she was criticised. All the actors I know, even the older stars are deeply criticised.

'We all have the same issues. Being our authentic selves, brings more passion and love for the world. The main mission is for everyone to figure out their uniqueness. If you don’t do it, it's going to kill you.

'I believe dreams are actually what you were born to do. Dreams are usually considered one in a million, but that's not true. Follow your bliss.'
