Heidi Montag has spoken out about the escalating drama with sister-in-law Stephanie Pratt, calling the situation heartbreaking. Speaking on her podcast, Make Speidi Famous Again, along with husband Spencer, 35, Heidi said 'It’s been a really hard week for me, 'I had a lot of on-Hills drama with a family member and that was very challenging and heartbreaking. I felt like there were some very below-the-belt, nasty comments that weren’t even true.' 'Below-the-belt, nasty comments that weren’t even true,': Heidi Montag and Spencer Pratt have spoken out to address Stephanie Pratt's comments about Heidi Heidi explained that she tried to sort the situation out with Stephanie before it got out of hand but her sister-in-law ignored her messages. 'The next day I was just like, "Hey, yeah, let’s give it some time and I’d love to move forward." Then the person didn’t even message me and was, like, subtweeting me. So, it was like, "You obviously don’t want to make amends because I would’ve wrote back."' Heidi said she thinks she's a soft target because people 'mistake kindness for weakness'. The mother-of-one added that she's trying to avoid drama while filming The Hills: New Beginnings but had to stand up for herself after Stephanie attacked her this week. On her podcast on Monday Stephanie blasted the couple as 'the most toxic people I've ever met' and said Heidi was a 'gold digger' who she blamed for wantonly spending her parents' money She continued, 'You do need to have boundaries. Family, not family, friends — I don’t want my children to think it’s OK to let themselves be treated a certain way and have people say certain things about them, 'There’s no way I’m not standing up for myself and my family.' Spencer chimed in: 'If you think you’re gonna walk on my sweet little angel, Heidi, you have something coming your way.' Stephanie, 32, opened up about her estrangement from her brother on her podcast released Monday. Family feud: Stephanie said 'No one knows the real Heidi. Before the new Hills, the Beginnings, my mom, my brother and I all sat down and we said, 'We will not let this ruin our family again.' Her rant contradicted her interview from March in which she claimed that The Hills reboot had repaired her relationship with her brother. Stephanie touched on the feud on the Pratt Cast podcast, which she hosts with The Bachelorette's Wells Adams. The Made in Chelsea star blamed Heidi almost exclusively for the dissolution of her relationship with her brother. 'No one knows the real Heidi,' she explained. Stephanie was previously arrested for a DUI in 2009, for which she was sentenced to three years probation, which she successfully completed. 'I'm done. I don't care. I'm not protecting them anymore,' she said. 'You have to put on your oxygen mask before you put on someone else's … That's what I'm doing right now. If my mom can't handle this, that's her issue,' she added. 'I cannot help her.' Stephanie went on to say that she had to pretend that Heidi and Spencer were 'good people' while filming The Hills, which she joined starting in its third season. 'They are the most toxic people I've ever met. They are Bonnie and Clyde till they die ... I'm going to expose them for who they are.' New tune: Despite their new falling-out, Stephanie claimed to Fox News on March 12 that the rebooted reality series had helped repair her relationship with Spencer; Spencer, Heidi and Gunner pictured March 23 'If you ever have a son, Wells, I pray that he doesn't meet Heidi Montag,' Stephanie said, adding that Heidi was a 'gold digger' who she blamed for wantonly spending her parents' money. 'If it weren't for Heidi, I would have an epic relationship with my brother. So would my parents … I've tried to be nice to her for 10 years because I love my brother.' That seemed to explain her willingness to resuscitate their relationship in the early days of the new reality series. 'A few weeks into filming, [Spencer and I] started communicating more, just the two of us. It was like I was back in high school with him. I couldn't have been happier,' she said. 'It never changes. They flip the switch on me.' Washing her hands: 'They are Bonnie and Clyde till they die'; pictured is a still from original The Hills Though she seemed happy to be rid of her toxic relationship with Spencer and Heidi, Stephanie expressed regret about not seeing their 18-month-old son Gunner, saying she would 'really miss' him. But that wasn't enough to deter her. 'I do not have a brother and I never had a sister-in-law.' She originally fell out with her brother due to his increasingly erratic behavior on the original Hills, as well as her friendship with Lauren Conrad. Despite their new falling-out, Stephanie claimed to Fox News on March 12 that the rebooted reality series had helped repair her relationship with Spencer. 'It’s so funny because the original Hills broke us up, and now the new Hills has totally brought us together — geographically and emotionally, and physically.'
