Speaking about how he never expected his new 'hot priest' status, he said: 'I sure didn’t. [Especially Growing up] with all those not-hot priests - no offence to the priests who taught me in Catholic Dublin.

'It's been amazing, it’s been absolutely incredible. I knew it was a beautiful script but the effect that it’s had on people is amazing.'

Revealing he's not always been a 'sex symbol', he added: 'I used to go to these drama classes when I was a kid and I was shaking going in and then something just sort of happened.

'I had this little sort of lisp, quite a strong lisp, and it really helped with that. I think drama is really good for kids... even if they don’t become professional actors, even just to learn how to get up in front of strangers.'

Andrew starred as the Priest, nicknamed by fans as 'hot priest', in the BBC series yet after sleeping with Phoebe's character, Fleabag, he decided to stick to his religious vows rather than pursue a romance in the final episode.

The actor instantly became a 'sex symbol' after he demanded Fleabag 'kneel' in the church before passionately kissing her during one chemistry-fuelled episode.

Andrew also spoke about his close friendship with Fleabag's creator and co-star Phoebe, who is also the genius behind Killing Eve.

He said: 'We did a play about 10 years ago, we had this amazing meeting last summer, she rang me up to talk about Fleabag and we spoke about love and loss...
