Kristina Rihanoff insists the Strictly 'curse' is inevitable

Kristina Rihanoff has weighed in on the infamous Strictly 'curse' and said it's inevitable following claims that Stacey Dooley and Kevin Clifton are now dating.

The professional dancer, 41, fell victim to the 'curse' twice during her eight year stint on the BBC ballroom stalwart after initially falling for celebrity partner Joe Calzaghe in 2009 and then Ben Cohen four years later when they were partnered in 2013.

Appearing on Tuesday's Good Morning Britain, Kristina discussed recent reports that presenter Stacey, 32, broke up with her ex Sam Tucknott for dance partner Kevin, 36.

She said: 'That's what's difficult about this because there is always going to be someone hurt or someone feeling it's wrong what's happening, but people do meet at work and that's where we work.'

The Russian dancer admitted that the 'curse' affects the show year-in and year-out because of the 'intense' environment that celebrities and their professional partners find themselves in.

'I think it’s about creating a very strong bond and trusting one another,' she added. 'The show is very intense… emotionally and physically.

'At the end of the day you have a very big task in front of you and lots of pressure on your shoulders… people have to trust one another and I think that’s where it all starts.'

Previously, Kristina embarked upon a four-year relationship with boxer Joe Calzaghe, who dumped his girlfriend of five years, model Jo-Emma Larvin, when they were partnered together in 2009.

Within weeks of being paired with Ben in 2013 on the hugely popular BBC1, Kristina and Joe separated.

Former England rugby star Ben has always insisted his marriage to Abby Blayney, the mother of his twin girls Isabelle and Harriette, was over before he and Kristina got together.

Following the furore of how their romance began, the couple are stronger than ever and have welcomed a daughter, Mila, together in 2016.
