Sheridan Smith transforms into murder victim's mother

She's set to portray the mother of Grindr serial killer Stephen Port's first victim Anthony Walgate, Sarah Sak, in the BBC's The Barking Murders.

And Sheridan Smith was back out on set for the disturbing new drama, as she filmed scenes in and around Manchester.

The actress, 37, got into character as she dressed in a black floral dress, while she kept warm by donning a purple raincoat over the top of it.

The Gavin And Stacey star wore her dyed auburn locks in a bob, and she kept her fringe from falling in front of her eyes with a pair of black shades.

Adding some finishing touches to her character's wardrobe, Sheridan wore gold hoop earrings and a silver necklace.

Sheridan was seen heading home after finishing shooting, and she seemed to be in good spirits as she couldn't keep from smiling after a hard's day work.

Stephen Port drugged and murdered four men he met on the dating app between 2014 and 2015.   He will be played by Stephen Merchant in the series.

The killer famously received a life sentence for drugging and raping male victims to 'satisfy his fetish' for sex with the unconscious.

Port killed 21-year-old fellow chef Daniel Whitworth, along with Gabriel Kovari, 22, fashion student Anthony Walgate, 23, and Jack Taylor, 25, a forklift driver from Dagenham.

He met all of the men on gay dating app Grindr and killed them using date rape drug GHB before dumping their bodies in the street or his local graveyard in Barking, east London.

Sentenced in November 2016, Port got the same term as notorious killers including Fred and Rose West, Ian Brady and Myra Hindley, Robert Black and Mark Bridger.

And now it is the challenge of former film student Merchant to act out a story that he said 'could not be ignored,' as the drama follows the aftermath of the killings and how Port tried to cover them up.

In a stark departure from his usual light-hearted characters, towering 6ft6in actor Stephen had changed his appearance noticeably to take on the menacing air of the Grindr killer.

Earlier this year, Stephen explained why he felt
