EastEnders actor Danny Walters has apologised for historic homophobic language that he used on Twitter.

The 25-year-old actor, who plays Keanu Taylor in the soap, showed his remorse as he told MailOnline on Thursday that he was sorry for his 'immature' tweets.

According to a report from The Sun, in two now-deleted tweets Danny referred to a friend as  a 'little f**' in one post, while he told another friend: 'you owe me £5 f****t!'

The tweets were published in 2012 when the actor was 19, and was before he landed his breakthrough role as Tiger Dyke in ITV’s Benidorm, or joined the soap.

When contacted for comment, Danny told MailOnline: 'I am very sorry for posting these immature comments to a friend when I was 19-years-old.

'It’s not language I would ever use now and I’d like to apologise to anyone I’ve offended.'

While a friend of his came to his defence, as they told Digital Spy: 'Danny is feeling absolutely mortified that something he posted when he was younger has come back to bite him. He doesn’t have a bad bone in him.' 

The actor first joined the soap in 2017, becoming a part of the Taylor family before he embarked on an affair with Sharon Mitchell (Letitia Dean).

He has taken part in a number of important storylines in the soap, and will soon be part of a mission to save Louise Mitchell from kidnappers.

The revelation comes after Emmerdale star Shila Iqbal was fired from her role as Aiesha Richards on the soap over her historic racist and homophobic tweets. 

Shila, 24 was dismissed by ITV on Wednesday last week when the tweets, shared six years ago while she was at college, were unearthed and infuriated TV executives. 

In one Twitter posting, she wrote: ‘Do not tweet me you gay.’ In another, which further outraged the show’s bosses, she wrote: ‘I know too many noisy n****s’ and followed it with a sad face emoji.
