Channel Nine producers were hoping to film the next series of Love Island Australia in tropical Fiji.

However, the Fijian government is reportedly so concerned about the 'sleazy' nature of the program that they are refusing to allow the 2019 series to be filmed there.

According to Confidential on Sunday, the tawdry reality show may be shot in the decidedly less exotic locale of Queensland, Australia.

Given that Love Island is to shift from 9GO! to Nine's primary channel, the pressure is on executives to find a location that will bring the necessary wow factor to appeal to mainstream viewers.

Daily Mail Australia has reached out to Channel Nine for comment.
