Samuel Johnson was crowned winner of Dancing With The Stars on Monday night, capping off an extraordinary season of the Network Ten reality show.

However, there was quite a lot of controversy behind the scenes, due to a Facebook post the 41-year-old actor made in mid-April.

Samuel took to the social media platform to urge viewers not to vote for him on DWTS, but to instead donate the 55 cent cost of the call to his cancer charity Love Your Sister.

Samuel, 41, told the 2Day FM Grant, Ed & Ash show on Tuesday that he was severely reprimanded by the network for the unauthorised call to action.

'I got scolded. I didn't realise I stuffed up. What I should have done is ask for people to vote and to donate,' said Samuel.

He continued: 'I was particularly obsessed with cancer on that day because I thought I was going to lose to Courtney [Act] so I was getting desperate and trying to remind people that it's cancer that I'm trying to dance my way through at this point.

'It was just thoughtless and I shouldn't have been dismissive of the voting process and I have been reprimanded heavily and I am on my best behaviour.' 

In a lengthy Facebook post, Samuel had urged viewers to skip voting for him on DWTS but to instead donate the 55 cent cost of the call to his charity.

'Being that SMS votes cost 55c and none of the proceeds go to charity, I'm asking that you forget
