Fox's new episode of Empire marked the end of an era, the final episode for embattled actor Jussie Smollett.
The episode marked a historic first, featuring the first ever gay black marriage on television history, between Smollett's Jamal Lyon and his boyfriend Kai (Toby Onwumere), with fans not hesitating to share their thoughts on social media.

After all of the controversy surrounding the attack on Smollett in Chicago, Fox announced in February that Smollett was dropped for the rest of the season.
A month later, all charges against Smollett were dropped, though his future on the show remains in doubt.
Before the episode aired, Empire stars Terrence Howard, Taraji P. Henson, Gabourey Sidibe, Nicole Ari Parker, Bryshere R. Grey and Trai Byers signed a letter to the producers, Fox and Disney to bring Smollett back for Empire Season 6.
