Billboard Awards 2019: Worst dressed stars on the red carpet

Not every risk pays off.

And the evidence was there for all to see on the red carpet of the Billboard Music Awards this Wednesday at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Halsey, 24, was at the top of the list in a black and electric blue gown that appeared to be inspired by the burlesque dancers of the Depression era.

Her strapless ensemble had a massive slit up one side allowing her to flash a bit of leg, and its mostly blue fabric was interrupted by occasional stretches of black mesh.

There was a ring of sheer fabric surrounding her thighs, and the hem of her outfit was awkwardly overlong, so that the fabric became crumpled when she stood still.

Halsey, born Ashley Frangipane, had some extra mesh and a few kinky straps at the back of her outfit, which she accessorized with a pair of earrings.

She enhanced the eye-popping impact of her appearance with some striking dark makeup, including a purple shade of lipstick to go with her gown.

Yung Miami, a singer from the group City Girls, looked like she might be swallowed up by her massively frilly lime green gown, which she complemented with neon yellow shoes.

Meanwhile, Tori Kelly was a showstopping presence in a gleaming tangerine suit with a moss-green turtleneck that matched her shoes, accenting the look with hoop earrings.

Diplo evidently fancied himself quite the country star, teaming a large belt and cowboy hat with a purple jumpsuit embroidered with flowers. 

Also among the worst-dressed was Poppy, 24, whose enormous black outfit looked like a rejected sketch from the art department of HBO's hit fantasy series Game Of Thrones.

The massive dress was made up of a series of black rubber plates that as a group resembled chain mail, and she added to the effect with a massive black leather belt. 

Her outfit featured a pair of black leather gloves as well, and the petite singer swept her platinum blonde hair severely back into a high ponytail.

The YouTube star born Moriah Rose Pereira rounded off her ensemble with a pointy-toed pair blue Art Deco heels that clashed oddly with the rest of her outfit and had some serrated bordering.

Chantel Jeffries went for a bold fashion statement in a transparent jumpsuit - but a few wrong turns along the way took the outfit from 'whoa' to 'no.'

The garment looked painfully tight above the waist, and the fitting down below was equally problematic, as the fabric started to crumple up around her calves.

Even her beautifully done hair and makeup could not save Chantel's red carpet look, which included a very basic pair of nude heels.

Ingrid Michaelson flashed her enviably trim midriff in an excessively busy outfit, slipping into a finely pleated skirt that was covered in an elaborate colorful floral print.

The Jonas Brothers - Joe, Nick and Kevin - clashed against each other in suits with loud prints, posing together as a trio before standing for the camera with their respective significant others.

Maluma, who will be performing at the awards show with Madonna, was clearly a kindred spirit with the Material Girl when it comes to their taste in outrageous wardrobe choices.

Mustard pulled on a glinting pink vest and matching pants, stringing a multi-chain medallion necklace on over his white t-shirt for his red carpet outing.

LIVVIA, the Parachute singer born Olivia Christensen, flashed her legs in a splotchy multicolored mini-dress with wide-set sleeves, giving herself some extra stature with Louis Vuitton heels. 

Jennifer Hudson arrived on the red carpet in a brown suit that was festooned with glimmering fringe.
