'Playing the woman who inspired the elven queen was my way of working around these stories in a different way. She returned the ring and she and Tolkien married, with Edith converting to Catholicism and being thrown out of her home as a result. In the first statement made by the Tolkien Estate regarding the biopic, the family of the author said it does not endorse the Fox Searchlight production 'in any way'.
