Soap star Mat Stevenson had roles on TV which most actors would die for.

However, the heart-throb shocked fans when he left long-running soap Home and Away after five years and 500 episodes with the hit program.

Now Mat, who played Adam Cameron on the soap between 1989 and 1994, has revealed just why he ditched his plum job.

The 50-year-old told The Daily Telegraph on Saturday that he in fact left acting for love.

'After I left Home and Away, I travelled for three years and when I came back I was 27. I met a woman that I loved and we wanted a family,' said Mat.
