In the trailer's opening scene, Principal Warren Nippal (played by P.J. Byrne) told Madeline she's 'not the only parent complaining, just by far the loudest'.

Another parent then offered the diminutive but quick-witted blonde a cupcake, which she readily accepted.

'I don't even like to chew, I just shove it down... maybe you can give one to Warren, so he can shove it too.'

'Oh... and we're off,' the school administrator commented dryly.

A montage of quick-cut images then showed Reese's character dancing and drinking with the other main mothers from season one of the show.

These include Nicole Kidman's Celeste Wright, Laura Dern's Renata Klein, Zoe Kravitz's Bonnie Carlson and Shailene Woodley's Jane Chapman.

The women were collectively referred to as 'the Monterey Five' in the first trailer for the new season, a reference to the Californian seaside community in which the women all live.

'It's a classy crop of moms, these ones,' Principal Nippal can be heard to comment sarcastically, over images of the Monterey Five sipping champagne at a costume party.

The principal then described Laura Dern's highly strung socialite as 'the Medusa of Monterey'.

This over images of Renata posing for a photo shoot out by her pool, before cutting to a scene of Renata berating Nippal in his office.

'I will squash you like the bug that you are,' ranted Dern's character.
