She's the daughter of showbusiness legends Patti and Bert Newton, husband to former Olympic swimmer Matt Welsh and a doting mother-of-five.

And Lauren Newton, 40, has revealed the surprising advice that her famous mother gave her and Matt on raising a family.

According to Lauren, Patti said that a family needs one stay-at-home parent to be successful.

'It doesn't work if both of us are busy. Mum taught me someone had to make that choice - they couldn't both be off chasing their dreams,' she told BW Magazine. 

Newton currently fronts the Mumcation campaign by Crown Metropol Melbourne which encourages mothers to step away from their parenting
