Peggy Lipton, the actress mother of Rashida Jones, has died at 72.

The New York-born entertainer was best known for her roles as Julie Barnes on ABC's Mod Squad, and Norma Jennings on Twin Peaks.

Lipton was married to Quincy Jones from 1974 to 1990, and also mother to actress Kidada Jones, 45. Both Kidada and Rashida, 43, confirmed Lipton's passing to the Los Angeles Times.

Prior to her breakout role on the Mod Squad from 1968 to 1973, Lipton appeared on programs including Bewitched, The Alfred Hitchcock Hour, The Magical World of Disney and a Bob Hope special.

She appeared on the cult hit Twin Peaks throughout its 1989-1991 run, as well as the 1992 film Twin Peaks: Fire Walk with
