Peter Stefanovic recently announced he will front Sky News' breakfast show First Edition from July 1. Now, the 37-year-old journalist has announced he will host the network's flagship program alongside political reporter, Laura Jayes. In an Instagram post on Monday, the former Channel Nine presenter wrote: 'Absolutely thrilled to join Laura Jayes as the new host of Sky News First Edition. I start July 1 and hope you can tune in!' Peter also referenced his wife and former Today show newsreader, Sylvia Jeffreys' prior experience with early morning starts during her tenure on the Channel Nine breakfast TV show. 'Sylvia Jeffreys has already given me her alarm clock,' Peter concluded. The A Current Affair reporter was quick to praise her husband's new on-air partner, commenting: 'That's a great team.' Peter's former Channel Nine colleague, Ben Fordham wrote: 'Well done bro. Good team.' Another former colleague from Channel Nine, Erin Molan also chimed in, writing: 'So so so proud!!! You will smash it!' Peter's new sister-in-law, Jasmine Yarbrough, who wed Karl Stefanovic in Mexico last year, also passed on her well wishes, commenting: 'Congrats Petey.' In an interview with The Daily Telegraph on Sunday, Peter who was axed from the Nine network in December, said he's 'excited' and 'thrilled' to join the team. 'I'm excited. Thrilled about it, actually,' Peter told the paper. 'It's a great challenge, a wonderful opportunity and a fantastic privilege to be asked to be part of the Sky News team.' The new role comes after Peter was dropped from Channel Nine in December, after 15 years with the network. Sylvia was one the few Today personalities to remain with the network following last year's breakfast division 'bloodbath'. It was previously rumoured that Nine bosses wanted her to host her own prime time show, but this has yet to materialise. Meanwhile the decision to axe Peter came after a private phone conversation back in March last year, was leaked to the press. The driver's 'recollections' of the conversation between Peter and his older brother Karl, 44, were splashed over two editions of New Idea in March and April. During the conversation, Peter complained about his role on Weekend Today and the Stefanovic brothers also criticised Nine staffers and executives. First Edition airs weekdays from 5am-9am on Sky News on Foxtel from July 1.
